It is a direct response to the unprecedented protests of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. The BLM movement is a plea for systemic change and acknowledgement of shared humanity. The contrasts in this piece, rough and refined, dark and light, hide the preciousness within. The base of this work reveals the original, unaltered condition of the wood.
